John Horne - Guitarist
John demonstrates a variety of guitars and types of
music. Short performances of classical, blues, jazz, and rock
music demonstrate how each instrument's unique sounds and style has
impacted our music and culture. John also offers songwriting
workshops for classroom-size or smaller groups in which he uses
popular American song forms as a template for students to create their
own lyrics and music. (Workshops require whiteboard or similar writing
surface.)
Age levels: K-6; Time: approx. 45 minutes; Availability: flexible with notice; Requirements: microphone system if in larger room.
A 1992 graduate of Duquesne University School of
Music in Pittsburgh, PA, John now resides in Athens, Ohio, performing
regularly as a soloist and with the Athens-based jazz quintet "The
Jazztet". He also enjoys teaching guitar and jazz improvisation
and is currenly working with: Ohio University, University of Rio
Grande, National Guitar Workshop, Ohio Arts Council, and Artsbridge.
