      Fabric/Textile Art

Liz offers a number of presentation options in fabric/textile arts: (grades 4-6) Wall hangings with yo-yo flowers, fused leaves, embroidery.  (grades 3-6)   Fabric weaving-pillow top or table mat; quilting, straw weaving.  In all presentations, students learn the cultural background and process of fabric art and produce an original piece of artwork.  Most projects require a small material charge per student.  Ask Liz about the "Appalachian Memory Quilt," and "Treasure Bags." Junior High: in addition to weaving demonstration, Liz offers a "Quilting Workshop" for grades 5-9 which illustrates the use of plane geometry in a fabric art form.  Illustrations of folk art quilts from African-American, Amishj, Hawaiian, Japanese, and Native-American traditions are included.  Study guide for each presentation provided.

Age Level: grades 3-6; 7-9 Time: adjustable, 45 min. to 1 1/2 hours Availability: flexible with two weeks notice (no Thursdays) Requirements: flat surface (table) and an electrical outlet; some school materials (scissors, glue stick, ruler) Residency projects also available.  Call for more information

Liz is a graduate of Glenville State College and has taught her artwork in schools, camps, churches, and workshops/conferences for over 20 years.  Her work has been juried into Tamarack as well as craft fairs and festivals.  Through The Arts in the Embassies Program, a sample of Liz's work was chosen to be displayed in the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, West African Republic of Benin.  Lis'z seascape art quilt is featured in the Winter, 2005 issue of American Quilter Magazine.  Liz helped found Camp Echo for the handicapped and served as its director for three years.  Through her business, "Seams a Bit Different", she markets wearable art and home decorator items.
