Melody Sandusky

Pottery/Sculpture

In Melody's presentation, children will learn basic handbuilding techniques.  Each student will have an opportunity to complete a pinched, coiled, or slab molded pot depending on the students age, interest, and time.  (If desired, the work can be decorated and fired in a two-day session.)  In addition to the clay work, there will be a brief demonstration of various clay bodies, techniques and styles with completed pieces available for the children to see and touch.

Age level: grades 1-6 Time: 1-2 hour sessions for best hands-on experience Availability: two weeks notice. Requirements: access to water, tables, boxes, no rug or carpet in the room.  Note: 25 students max; requires 2 units.  Participants encouraged to wear old clothes

Melody graduated from Glenville State College and has studied extensively with Henry Aglio at West Virginia University/Parkersburg.  Her work was featured in By Women's Hands at Marietta College and has been exhibited at the Parkersburg Art Center, Sunrise Art Museum in Charleston and at the West Virginia Juried Forest Festival.  Melody has received two ARTSBRIDGE Special Project Grants and has developed a program for utilizing clay as a positive experience for physically challenged children.
